How to obtain your credit file
You have a right to see what information and where information was obtained about you from any of the below. If you wish to become aware of this information then you will need to write and pay a small charge fee of £10.00 maximum. The firm have a duty to reply within 40 days of receiving the receipt of their fee.
You may also require the information contained on a credit reference agency file, you can do this by writing and paying a small fee of £2.00. The agency must respond within 7 working days. If your file contains details about other persons whom have no financial connection or it contains details which are simply incorrect then you can ask for the information to be corrected, removed or a note put on the file explaining why the information is wrong. The companies are obliged to keep all correct information on there systems.The Data Protection Commissioner provides a useful, easy to read leaflet that includes examples of letters and details that enable you to amend your file and how to request changes to your credit reference file.
